Reviewed September 26, 2026. Research-based review of ToolJet's official pricing — not a hands-on benchmark. Jet Admin publishes this comparison and is a competing product.
ToolJet builds internal tools over your existing data, with both a free self-hosted option and a managed cloud service. Its cloud pricing is charged per builder, and the rate climbs steeply between tiers: $23, then $79, then $199 per builder per month.
Some of the published tier details read inconsistently enough that we recommend verifying them directly — we say where below rather than smoothing over it.
ToolJet review: the quick verdict
| Strong reasons to consider ToolJet | Trade-offs to evaluate |
|---|---|
| Self-hosted option available free | Cloud rates are per builder and climb from $23 to $199 |
| Cloud free tier covers 2 builders and 50 end users | End-user limits apply below Enterprise |
| Enterprise states unlimited end users with no per-user fees | Several published tier details read inconsistently — verify them |
| Add-on AI credits are cheap at $1 per 100 | AI credits are metered per builder |
No numerical score is given, because we did not run a scored hands-on evaluation.
What is ToolJet?
ToolJet is a low-code platform for internal applications — dashboards, admin panels, operational tools — connected to your own databases and APIs. It offers self-hosted deployment as well as managed cloud, and its pricing separates builders from end users.
ToolJet's key features
1. Free self-hosting
A self-hosted tier is available at no cost. As with Budibase, this is the option that removes per-seat economics entirely if you have the infrastructure capability to run it.
2. A workable cloud free tier
Free includes 2 builders, 50 end users, 10 apps and 100 AI credits. Two builders is enough for a pair to work together, and 50 end users is enough for a real departmental tool.
3. Builders and end users priced separately
Cloud plans are quoted per builder, with end-user allowances attached to the tier. Enterprise states unlimited end users with no per-user fees.
4. AI credits, metered per builder
100 credits on Free, 2,000 per builder on Basic, 3,000 on Team. Additional credits are $1 per 100 — cheap enough that credit exhaustion is an inconvenience rather than a budget event.
5. Self-hosted paid tiers too
Self-hosting is available free, at Team level ($199), and at Enterprise level.
ToolJet pros
Free self-hosting is a genuine escape from per-seat pricing
Like Budibase, ToolJet lets you avoid the entire seat-cost question by running it yourself. For a large team, that is worth more than any feature comparison.
The cloud free tier is usable rather than decorative
Two builders and 50 end users across 10 apps is a working configuration for a small team, not just an evaluation sandbox.
Add-on credits are inexpensive
$1 per 100 credits means AI usage is not a significant financial risk. Compare this with platforms where credit top-ups are priced punitively.
Enterprise removes per-user fees explicitly
Stating "unlimited end users — no per-user fees" plainly is helpful, and it tells you what the constraint is on lower tiers.
ToolJet cons and limitations
Per-builder rates escalate sharply
$23 to $79 to $199 per builder is an 8.6× range. Four builders costs $92 on Basic, $316 on Pro, or $796 on Team.
What to do: identify the single feature that pushes you above Basic, then multiply its tier rate by your builder count. If that total is uncomfortable, self-hosting is the alternative ToolJet itself offers.
End-user limits apply below Enterprise
Because Enterprise advertises unlimited end users as a differentiator, lower tiers necessarily cap them — 50 on Free. For an internal tool intended to reach a whole department, the end-user allowance may decide your tier before the builder count does.
What to do: confirm the end-user allowance at each paid tier directly. This is the number most likely to constrain you and the one least clearly published.
Several published details read inconsistently
In our reading, some tier entries do not sit comfortably together — for example a rate quoted per builder alongside a description suggesting unlimited builders, and a high-priced tier listing a modest end-user count.
What to do: treat the figures in this review as a starting point and confirm the specific tier you are considering with ToolJet. We are flagging the ambiguity rather than resolving it by assumption, because guessing here could cost you real money.
Credits are metered per builder
AI allowances scale with builder count rather than being pooled, which is fine as a structure but means a single heavy user cannot draw on colleagues' unused credits.
What do ToolJet users say?
We did not verify a current aggregate rating on G2 or Capterra for ToolJet, so no score is cited. The figures above come from ToolJet's own pricing page.
As with other open-source-adjacent products in this series, GitHub activity and community discussion are worth weighing alongside review-site averages.
ToolJet pricing in 2026
Read from ToolJet's pricing page on September 26, 2026. USD. Some entries below are reproduced as published and read inconsistently; verify the tier you intend to buy. Our ToolJet pricing and alternatives guide covers the tiers and comparable platforms in more detail.
| Plan | Price | Builders | End users | Apps | AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud Free | $0 | 2 | 50 | 10 | 100 |
| Basic | $23 per builder/month | Per builder | Verify | Verify | 2,000 per builder |
| Pro | $79 per builder/month | Per builder | Verify | Verify | Verify |
| Team | $199 per builder/month | Per builder | 100 as published | Unlimited | 3,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited, no per-user fees | Custom | Custom |
| Self-hosted Free | $0 | — | — | — | — |
| Self-hosted Team | $199 | — | — | — | — |
Additional AI credits are $1 per 100.
A worked comparison. A three-builder team serving 80 end users cannot use the cloud free tier — 80 exceeds 50 — so the question becomes which paid tier covers 80 end users, and at $23, $79 or $199 per builder that is $69, $237 or $597 a month. The same deployment self-hosted is free of licence cost. For a team of that shape, self-hosting deserves serious evaluation.
Jet Admin vs. ToolJet: which should you evaluate?
| Priority | What to evaluate |
|---|---|
| Free software you run yourself | ToolJet's self-hosted tier — Jet Admin does not match free |
| Many end users on managed hosting | ToolJet caps end users below Enterprise. Jet Admin includes unlimited users on every plan |
| Several builders | ToolJet charges per builder. Jet Admin does not meter them |
| Predictable pricing you can model from the page | Jet Admin publishes flat plans; verify ToolJet's tiers directly |
| Cheap AI credit top-ups | ToolJet at $1 per 100 is inexpensive |
| Connecting to Postgres, MySQL and APIs | Both are built for this |

When ToolJet is the better choice
If you can self-host, ToolJet costs nothing in licence fees and has no per-seat ceiling — the same honest advantage Budibase has, and one no paid platform can match. For teams with infrastructure capability, that is the right answer.
Who should use ToolJet — and who should compare alternatives?
Good fit: teams who can self-host; pairs of builders serving up to 50 users, who fit the cloud free tier; teams whose AI usage benefits from cheap credit top-ups.
Compare alternatives if: you need managed hosting with many end users; you have several builders and per-builder rates compound; or you want pricing you can model confidently from a published page.
If managed hosting with unlimited users is the requirement, compare Jet Admin's flat plans against a ToolJet quote.
ToolJet review FAQ
Is ToolJet free?
Yes, in two ways: a free self-hosted tier, and a cloud free tier with 2 builders, 50 end users, 10 apps and 100 AI credits.
How much does ToolJet cost?
Cloud plans are per builder: Basic $23, Pro $79 and Team $199 per builder per month. Enterprise is custom. Self-hosted Team is $199.
Does ToolJet limit end users?
Yes below Enterprise — the free tier allows 50, and Enterprise advertises unlimited end users with no per-user fees. Confirm the allowance on the paid tier you are considering.
Can I self-host ToolJet for free?
Yes. A free self-hosted tier is published, alongside paid self-hosted Team and Enterprise options.
Why does this review say to verify the pricing?
Some published tier details read inconsistently — a per-builder rate described alongside unlimited builders, and a high tier listing a modest end-user count. Rather than guess at the intent, we recommend confirming the specific tier with ToolJet.
How does ToolJet compare with Jet Admin?
ToolJet's self-hosted version is free; Jet Admin's managed plans include unlimited users without per-builder or per-user charges. Whether you can self-host usually decides it.
Check the end-user allowance, then price self-hosting
ToolJet's builder rates are the visible cost and its end-user allowances are the hidden constraint. Confirm both for your intended tier, then compare against the free self-hosted option — which for many teams will be the better deal.
If self-hosting is not viable, compare Jet Admin at your real builder and user counts.
